Centrioles observed under electron microscope
What they are - definition
Centrioles are structures present in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells of the vast majority of animal species (including those of humans).
Main Features:
- They have a cylindrical shape;
- Centrioles consist of nine triple microtubules;
- Centrioles are located in the center of the cells;
- are arranged in pairs;
- Have the ability to self-duplicate.
Centriole Functions in Cells:
- It has great importance in the process of cell division.
- Participate in the organization of the myopic spindle (cytoskeleton structure involved in meiosis and mitosis).
- They act on the formation of cilia and flagella (filament-shaped cell appendages).
